Week 2

Below is my video of the flowgraph in action.

Below are a series of images with my comments on my flow graph.

My Pachube Feed

I would use the flow graph above after making a few alterations. Instead of distance between the Local Player and the Crew Member I would change that to the difference between sound levels of each player and have the second part average the highest and the lowest values of each player’s sound levels obtained from the XML file. If I was to put this into a real life scenario, the sound levels can be coordinated with different types of music.

250 Word Brief on my Analytics Engine

For my analytics engine I would like to represent sound waves in a different more creative manner that depicts real life. Music is an art form whose medium is sound and silence. The creation, performance, significance, and even the definition of music vary according to culture and social context. To many people in many cultures, music is an important part of their way of life. Music is enjoyed by all and follows us everywhere.
For my analytics engine I would like to use the data from the pachube feed I have chosen and create a world where you are able to see how music follows everyone everywhere. It would have been nice to have different data sources for different songs. For this example I will just be using the data from the pachube feed.

Week 1

FIRST EXPERIMENT

I was trying to analyse the fluctuation in velocity when the Local Player is put through different mediums (Air, water). The Local Player's velocity drops dramatically when running into water as the pressure builds while the Local Player swims further into the depths of the water. The Local Player's velocity drops more gradually at a steadier pace compared to when the Local Player first enters the water.

CHOSEN PACHUBE FEED

https://pachube.com/feeds/35475

This is the 5 minute feed graph for Muse - Time Is Running Out. Even though it only sends the data every 13 seconds, you can clearly see the verses and choruses as the song builds up over time.

S.W.O.T ANALYSIS

Strengths

1) The song used is given to us
2) An image of the graph is given to take values from even though it is not live
3) The minimum and maximum values are given for a frame of reference

Weaknesses

1) There is only 5 minutes worth of data
2) The feed is not live, must create own values
3) It's not a very smooth graph and very rigid
4) Details on what the high and low values represent are not given

Opportunities

1) As this is a reading of sound levels it allows me to be creative and think outside the box for my analytics engine
2) The opportunities are much like the strengths
3) As i have access to the pachube feed creator's project i could expand on it by putting in my own inputs

Threats

1) Given only 5 minutes of data to work with
2) No other data to compare it to

Final Machinima

I have used the Observational documentary type for my final machinima. This was done with the use of dramatic music depicting the hard explosions coinciding with the drum beats. I combined this with an interactive mode shown by my captions in my title blocks. This allows for the observer to feel exactly what the creator wanted to show with the minimal use of text and rather audio and videos.

My Installation, Pachube and “pure war”

The Bhut Jolokia Pepper Plant is typically called the ghost chili or ghost pepper. Scientists announced plans to use the peppers in hand grenades, as a non lethal way to flush out terrorists from their hideouts and to control rioters. If a “pure war” where no one would get hurt but still could send the message, would allow our fragile world to have a sense of stability. I created a fragile lattice to indicate how fragile our world is. The elevator allows us to see the battle from different angles yet the result is the same. A pure war can be achieved through a non-lethal hand grenade.
